We've picked out our favorite events for the next few weekends - here are our top picks for each borough:
Van Cortland Park's Howl-O-Ween Check out the Bronx's best dressed Halloween dogs in their holiday puppy parade. While you're there, explore the fall foliage in one of the borough's best parks. (Free, October 29th 12 pm - 2 pm).
Family Day at Wyckoff Farmhouse Drop in to this free event at the Wyckoff Farmhouse on October 21st to visit New York City’s oldest house and explore the colonial treats cooking classes, starting at 11 am (Free October 21st).
Jefferson Market Garden Fall Festival On Saturday, October 7th, visit the Children's Harvest Festival for free at the Jefferson Market Garden. Past years have included face painting, pumpkin decoration, and seasonal artwork (Free, October 7th 11 am - 2 pm).
The Amazing Maize Maze Get lost in a corn maze at the Queens Farm Park. The 3-foot puzzle will test your Sherlock skills with clues throughout. It's open on October 14th and 21st late, so you can stare at the stars from the maze. They are also hosting their Fall Festival on October 29th. (Adults $10, Children $5, Children under 3 FREE).
Staten Island Children's Museum At this museum, each exhibit is created specifically for kids - from the theater, to the great exploration rain forest, and our favorite - the garden terrace! ($8 admission; Tuesday-Sunday 10 am -5 pm ).
Outside the city
Masker Orchards Go apple picking and enjoy the great harvest that New York has to offer in the fall. Admission is free and you can eat all the apples that you want while at the orchard. You only have to pay if you want to take a bag to go. The orchard is a 20 minute walk from the Warwick Park & Ride, accessible via the 196 bus. (Free, 9am - 5pm).
