It's almost August and there is still lots of summer fun to be had! There are tons of family friendly events going on throughout the five boroughs this month and we've compiled a short list of some of our top recommendations! Boogie on the Boulevard Take out your dancing shoes for the wonderful celebration in the Bronx! There will be eight streets completely closed off to accommodate fun activities and dancing. You'll find everything from live performances, to mobile art galleries, to Zumba classes and more! There will even be a 500 square foot green lawn in the middle of the street for you to kick off your shoes and enjoy a picnic! The festival will be on Monday, August 20th and you can find out out more at boogieontheboulevard.org
Jubilee Festival @ Brighton Beach It's the 42nd annual Brighton Beach festival and there will be fabulous live Russian music, delicious food, carnival-style rides, and lots of dancing. The festival will take place along Bright Beach Avenue from Corbin Place to Coney Island Ave and will end at the beach! The festival will take place on Sunday, August 26th from 10 to 6. Pop Up Reading Room @ Marcus Garvey Park Right in our backyard in Harlem, you can gather around the reading room to read some of kid favorites or discover new books. The event takes place every Wednesday in August between 10:30 am and 1 pm right at 6316 Mt Morris Park W. This pop up event along with several others is put on by the Uni Project - check out their website for more information!
Summer Streets On August 4th, 11th, and 18th, Park Ave. will be closed (for cars) between Chambers St. and 72nd St and open to the public for an annual summer celebration. With nearly seven miles of activities for the family, there will be something for everyone. Think live dance performances, blow up bouncy houses, face painting, and delicious food, it will be a fun time for everyone. Check out nyc.gov for more information.
Mad Science: Spin, Pop, Boom Hosted by Northeast Queen Parks, kids will have the opportunity to witness amazing chemistry experiments. The event will have magic show vibes to showcase the "magic" of chemistry through some (safe) explosions that will be sure to get the kids excited. The event will be at Crocheron Park from 10:30 - 11:30 on Friday, August 10th. Check out the Facebook event for more information.
Plastic Bag Couture for Kids Hosted by John Hatfield, this event welcomes adults and kids alike to take everyday plastic bags and turn them into large fashionable tote bags of their own design and creation. The event is taking place at Socrates Sculpture Park in Long Island City on Saturday August 11th between 12 -3 PM. High Rock Gate Shark Files Turn off the Discovery Channel and head over to the Greenbelt on Sunday, August 5th. There will be a presentation and fun activities to explore the wonder of sharks. Visit Greenbelt Conservancy's site for more information on the event.
