During this pandemic, Red Rabbit has teamed up with so many new groups and organizations. We bet you've heard of Olivier Cheng Catering (OCC), who historically has catered events like the Met Gala, and other swanky events. Over the past few months, they have transformed their impeccable kitchen to feed people all throughout NYC!
Who are they? Under normal circumstances Olivier Cheng creates innovative culinary experiences, from fashion galas to intimate home dinners. He and his team curate custom events for their clients, tailored to individual visions. When COVID hit New York, Olivier had a vision of his own: to transform his commissary kitchen into a relief kitchen, providing meals for frontline workers and those facing food hardships.
What are they doing? Every week Olivier and his team of volunteers make over 1000 meals, 400 of which are being distributed by Red Rabbit and served at NYCHA houses in South Brooklyn. Menus have featured Braised Lamb Shoulder with Orange Glaze, alongside Quinoa & Vegetables, as well as Chicken Marsala with Polenta Cakes, Roasted Broccoli & Cauliflower. The adult meals, served to parents of children getting Red Rabbit meals completely free of charge, have been an incredible way to sustain families facing food insecurity during these uncertain times.
How are they doing it? Olivier himself has mobilized his vendors (Chef's Warehouse, Cuisine Solutions, Bednark Studios) and his incredible staff to donate their time and resources to his newly formed foundation, OCC for NYC. He's also asked his clients to donate, and help sustain their efforts through May and beyond. His team is serving health workers at NYU Langone Brooklyn, as well as the Fountain House & Special Citizens Futures United. If you or someone you know would like to donate, please consider OCC for NYC. Olivier's story of putting his empty kitchen back to work feeding the community is truly one that makes us all proud to be New Yorkers.
